San Miguel Literary Sala presents:
SUMMER LITERARY FEAST 2016

Virgina Woolf and Linda Gray to Headline Summer Literary FEAST

by Maia Williams

At first glance, the lives of Virginia Woolf and Linda Gray may appear glaringly dissimilar. Upon closer examination, we find that neither woman was content to live within the social mores of her time. Instead, both women challenged the status quo by choosing to excel in professions of their own choosing. In her own way, each woman made a mark that won’t soon be forgotten. The San Miguel Literary Sala invites you to experience both of their stories firsthand.

Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own

Catherine Bryne

This classic essay, first published in 1929, will come to life on Saturday, July 9 at 5:00 PM at Bellas Artes. Catherine Bryne spent more than a year researching Virginia Woolf’s life and work before beginning her adaptation of A Room of One’s Own for the stage. Since its debut in 1992, she has performed it in venues large and small, formal and makeshift, from Florida to Vermont as well as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Ms. Bryne considers “A Room of One’s Own” to be the defining artistic work of her career.

Ms. Woolf’s inquiry into the role of women (of genius) in society remains remarkably relevant. Don’t miss this theatrical nod to a major literary figure of the twentieth century.

Tickets maybe purchased in advance online and on Saturday, July 9 at the door.

Linda Gray, author of The Road to Happiness is Always Under Construction (published in 2015), is an award-winning actress, an accomplished director, and a former United Nations Ambassador. Her portrayal of Sue Ellen Ewing, in the original TV series Dallas, brought her international fame and critical acclaim. The role earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Actress and she was voted ‘Woman of the Year’ by The Hollywood Radio & Television Society. After starring in the #1 show on television for eleven years, she appeared in roles in numerous TV movies and starred in theater productions on Broadway and in London’s West End.

Ms. Gray will host a benefit brunch at Hotel Rosewood on Sunday, July 17, to raise the funds necessary to expand the Literary Sala’s successful “head start” type program to another rural village. Tickets must be purchased in advance online or in-person at the July 14 Literary Sala, at which Ms. Gray will be speaking about her book.
