Something to Declare:  Mary Morris reflects on San Miguel in the 70′s – and Travels Beyond. (90 minutes)

Journey in stories and pictures with author Mary Morris. Since the late 70s when Morris came to San Miguel, she has been writing and wandering.   She has searched for tigers in India, gone around the world on the TransSiberian railroad, ridden horses under the volcanoes of Ecuador.

She has kept journals filled with story ideas, travel memories, memorabilia, and watercolors.   In her talk Morris will discuss her meandering life and share with you some of the myriad of stories and images that have come out her many journeys which began in San Miguel.

Mary Morris is the author of fourteen books–six novels, including Revenge, three collections of short stories, and four travel memoirs, including the classic Nothing To Declare:  Memoirs of a Woman Traveling Alone,  which is set in San Miguel de Allende during the late 1970’s.

Her numerous short stories and articles have appeared in such places as The Atlantic, Ploughshares, and Narrative. The recipient of the Rome Prize in Literature, Morris teaches writing at Sarah Lawrence College. For more information go to her website.
