LITERARY SALA Presents
Agnes Olive and Devin Galaudet

By Carole Schor

On September 13, the Literary Sala invites you to see the art and hear the stories of Agnes Olive, and to meet world traveler and writer, Devin Galaudet, who took the ashes of his estranged and strange father on a trip to Spain where he lost the ashes and found his soul.

Agnes Olive

Agnes OliveFollowing a near-fatal heart attack three years ago, Agnes Olive reflected on her life and art and saw the need to leave a legacy by creating a retrospective of her art. Spirit of the Earth tells the story of an artist’s life and love of the human spirit, the earth’s gifts, and the rituals and rites of history through clay, handmade paper, sticks and stones.

To know Agnes is to know an artist who puts her heart and soul into each piece. Always an artist by nature, Agnes has found inspiration everywhere she looked, in the garbage, in the streets, in the fruits and vegetables growing all around her. From these found objects, Agnes has created a new work documenting 35 years of her artwork from 1980 in Canada to here in San Miguel in 2016 in a book that contains photographs accompanied by text retelling the inspirations that led to the pieces.

Devin Galaudet

Devin GalaudetDevin Galaudet is a man who travels – and travels and travels  – and writes about these travels in books and blogs. His latest adventure will take him around the world as he fulfills a pledge he and his wife have made to get married 100 times in 100 countries. So far they’ve had 19 weddings in 15 countries. His blog, “In The Know Traveler,” chronicles his journeys.

Devin aDevin Galaudet 10,000 Miles lso made a pledge to the seventh wife of his estranged father. His book, 10,000 Miles with my Dead Father’s Ashes, tells the story of another journey, this time with his father’s ashes (which he managed to lose on the way). It’s a tale of  “50 stolen cars, sacred African fertility dolls, a Darth Vader mask-wearing junkie, a mysterious secret family, a Playboy magazine found in a sewer hidden next to toilet paper wrapped downers, a Vegas hooker with one impressive breast, a hero’s journey, and traveling across the world with a black jug that contained my father in my rolling suitcase.”
