San Miguel Big Read Presents Panel Discussion of On Trails

Featuring: Albert Coffee, Marti McGinnis, Hope Palmer

On Trails, An Exploration by Robert MoorThe book selected for the San Miguel Big Read this year, On Trails by Robert Moor, has already been the subject of many discussions all over town, just what the Big Read committee was hoping when they selected it. Now the committee is presenting a panel of experts in a variety of fields to offer their studied views on the book, and to create even more discussion.

The panel presentation will take place on Wednesday, January 25 at 5:00 PM at the Aldea Hotel. Panelists include Albert Coffee, Marti McGinnis, Hope Palmer, and several others whose participation is pending.

Albert Coffee is the popular tour leader at Cañada de la Vergin Pyramid. He is an historian and anthropologist and will present a slide presentation about the importance of trails in pre-Hispanic Mexico including ancient trails that still exist!

Hope Palmer is and art historian, artist, and avid reader who spent a lifetime teaching in the arts and humanities. She will comment on the book as a work of literature, a style of writing, and how the author achieved what he did in the book.

Marti McGinnis loves to read non-fiction books on complex topics but aimed at lay readers, exactly the genre of On Trails. She will convey her enthusiasm for the book and discuss some of the sections in more depth.

Hailed by critics as an extraordinary literary achievement, On Trails uses the general topic of trails to explore many dimensions of life, from the earliest trails ever created on the planet to the extensive trails created by the Cherokee and other Native American tribes to the trails created by the Internet and the extension of the U.S. Appalachian Trail all the way to Europe and Morocco!

Small Discussion Groups

One of the best features of the Big Read is the small discussion groups formed all over town to discuss the Big Read book in detail, and we hope, to make some new friends at the same time. The Big Read groups will meet during the week of January 23. To join a Big Read discussion group, e-mail Big Read Director Jo Curtis at bigread@sanmiguelwritersconference.org or fill out the registration form. Tell Jo whether you prefer to meet in the morning, afternoon, or evening; the colonia where you live; and if you would like to host a group in your home.
